Adopting an ex-battery hen is a very special thing...
They will be adopted through The British Hen Welfare Trust or Fresh Start 4 Hens depending on availability.
Half of the adoption fee will go directly to BJB Welfare Fund giving more opportunities for kids to play rugby and supporting the club.
The other half of the adoption fee will cover the cost of rescuing the hen, chicken coops, runs, fencing and enrichment facilities; which are sourced and provided by Hill Farm and their community programme.
A win, win, win, win scenario!
Lets get adopting an ex-battery hen
These hens are classified as “not productive” by the battery farmers. We save them from going to slaughter (to be put into dog food or chicken pie…)
- They are integrated into small teams where they are fed really well, given access to fresh green grass, bugs and veggies... and given lots of love.
- They socialise and build trust between each other to become very very very happy (and grateful) hens.
- These hens then grow back their feathers… they get curious… they get adventurous… and they soon return to being high producing layers.
- Each hen will be given a number and will be matched to you (their adopter). You will be given updates on or hen or a regular basis.
- You can even name your hen
